Role of the Opposition in India's inclusive development

As India's national politics went from being multipolar to effectively unipolar with the rise of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Narendra Modi, the Opposition has struggled to counter the BJP's narrative in two consecutive elections. While some parties have performed well in state elections, they are unable to repeat this feat in national elections. Dominance of a single party over a country's politics often leads to an erosion of democratic principles and institutions over time, which can jeopardize the goal of inclusive development.
